The 2022 Beijing Paralympic Games have been extremely inspiring. I decided to dedicate this month’s blog post in honor of people with disabilities. The children’s books listed below support authors with disabilities, promote equity for people with disabilities, and provides resources.
Did you know:
According to the World Health Organization over 1 billion people live with some form of disability. With disability comes negative stigma, inaccurate assumptions, limited support, multiple barriers, and discrimination. People with disabilities experience increased acts of violence and abuse.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children with disabilities and special health care needs are at increased risk of maltreatment. Children with disabilities are three times higher to experience child abuse and neglect and are more likely to be victims of violence than their peers without disabilities.
It’s time we change this narrative.
“Until the great mass of the people shall be filled with the sense of responsibility for each other’s welfare, social justice can never be attained.” — Helen Keller
